Cloning an Agent
Open in CMSCloning makes a new agent from an existing one: the same settings, the same knowledge, a new name. Use it to start a variant of an agent that already works, for example a second branch office or a test copy, without building it again.
Who can clone an agent? Only Owner and Admin, at the organization level. The copy lands in the same organization as the original and counts toward your agent limit.
What is copied
| Copied | Details |
|---|---|
| All settings | Persona, behavior, welcome message, AI models, voice, appearance, web search and web scraping, timezone, tools, MCP servers, skills, memory settings and escalation. |
| Knowledge | Every document and its chunks, in the state it has in the original: an active document is active in the copy, a suspended one stays suspended, a pending one stays pending. |
| Files | The About page, skill files (artifacts), the avatar and logo images, and the custom CSS. |
| Credit limit | The monthly credit limit, when the original has one. |
What is not copied
| Not copied | Why |
|---|---|
| Conversations, users, analytics and stored memories | The copy is a new agent; it starts with no history. |
| Channels (WhatsApp, Instagram, email) | A channel connects to one agent only. Connect the copy to its own channels. |
| Admin Key | It is a secret. Set a new one on the copy if you need it. |
| Deleted documents, and documents still processing | Only finished documents have chunks to copy. Upload the rest again once they are ready. |
| Simulation tests and custom conversation analysis types | They belong to the original agent's own history of tests and analyses. |
Two features are copied but switched off, so the copy never acts on its own before you have checked it:
- Automations: the policy and its limits are copied; turn automations on in the copy's Automation page.
- Agent-to-agent (A2A) access: the description and allowed tools are copied; turn it on again if other agents should call the copy.
Where to find it
Open the Organizations page → select your organization → Manage on the agent's card → Clone tile (Clone agent). (The Manage button only appears for Owners and Admins.)
How cloning works
- Click the Clone tile on the agent's Manage page.
- Type a name for the copy in New Agent Name. The dialog lists what is and is not copied.
- Click Clone Agent. The new agent is created within a few seconds and appears in the organization's agent list.
- The dialog stays open while the knowledge and files are copied in the background. It shows how many documents have been copied. An agent with many documents can take a few minutes. You can close the dialog; the copy continues.
- When the copy is done, the dialog says so and lists anything that could not be copied, and anything you should check. Click Open with the new agent's name to go to its Manage page.
Check the texts that name the original. The welcome message, mission and persona are copied word for word. If they mention the original agent by name, change them on the copy.
If the copy reports that something could not be copied, delete the copy and clone again. If it happens again, contact support with the agent's name.
Worked example
Dina, an Admin at Kirana Group, wants a copy of Atlas, the finance assistant, for a new subsidiary.
She opens the organization → Agents tile → Manage on the Atlas card → Clone tile, types
Atlas Subsidiary, and clicks Clone Agent. The dialog counts the documents as they are copied, then says the copy is ready. It reminds her that automations are switched off. She opens Atlas Subsidiary, changes the welcome message that still says "Atlas", and asks it the same capex question she asks Atlas. The answer quotes the same SOP.
