The Chunks page shows you the individual text units — called chunks — that your agent actually retrieves when answering questions. Chunks are extracted automatically during document processing, or you can create them manually for content that does not come from an uploaded file.

Navigate to Knowledge → Chunks in the left sidebar. The CMS lists this page under Knowledge; in these docs it belongs to the Fine-Tune Answer Quality stage, because it is mainly a tool for finding out why an answer is wrong or missing.

Before you start

  • Add at least one source in Documents, Websites, or Videos, and wait until it has finished processing. Auto chunks appear only after processing.
  • Have a question in mind that the agent answers badly. Searching for its key words here is the fastest way to start.

What Are Chunks?

When a document, video transcript, or web page is processed, it is split into smaller sections of text. Each section becomes a chunk. When a user asks a question, the agent searches across all chunks and retrieves the most relevant ones to construct its answer.

Viewing the Search page is the most direct way to understand what knowledge your agent has — and to diagnose why it is not finding something.

Chunk typeDescription
Auto-generatedCreated automatically when a document, video, or website is processed
ManualCreated directly on the Search page, independent of any source document

Creating a Manual Chunk

Click New Chunk to open the chunk creation form. You can enter the text content, assign a title and metadata, and save it as a standalone knowledge unit. Manual chunks are useful for:

  • Adding short factual statements that are not in any document
  • Overriding or supplementing auto-generated chunks
  • Testing specific answer content without re-processing a full document

Searching and Filtering

The filter panel is always visible on this page — no toggle is required. Available filters:

FilterDescription
ContentFull or partial text match within the chunk body
TitlePartial text match on the chunk title
SourceFilter by the source document, website, or video the chunk came from
TypeFilter by manual vs auto-generated

Click Apply to run the filter. Click Reset to clear all filters and show the full list.

Sorting

Use the Sort By and Sort Direction controls in the top-right to order the list. The default sort is by Type in ascending order, which groups manual chunks together.

Check the result

After you add or change a chunk, click the reload button in the preview panel on the right side of the page and ask the question again. The answer should now use the corrected or new content.

Next steps

You have reached the end of the Configuring Your Agent journey.

  • Overview: look back at the full journey and pick the next thing to improve.
  • Test Automation: check answer quality across many questions at once.
  • Retrieval: configure how many chunks the agent retrieves per query and how tolerant the search is.
